There’s a few hefty reviews of Cory Doctorow’s seminal piece, Little Brother and I’ll let you sploogle them if you like. For me, here’s what hits home:
The White House said Thursday that dangerous detainees at Guantanamo Bay could end up walking Main Street U.S.A. as a result of last month’s Supreme Court ruling about detainees’ legal rights. Federal appeals courts, however, have indicated they have no intention of letting that happen.
It’s timeliness. That’s from just a few hours ago, folks. FEAR FEAR FEAR. MAIN STREET USA RIDDLED WITH TERRORIST THREAT. ZOMG.
If LB had shown up shortly after nine-eleven, it would prolly have been given a bad rap. A fox news treatment. As it is, now that some fear-water has flowed under the bridge-o-rational-thinking, LiLBro has been on the best seller list for weeks. Which is farking fantasticly wonderful.
I bought two copies, and sent one to my little brother for his b-day. I’m going to comprehensively dissect this book for it’s informations. It’s a fun read to boot. I can’t seem to get Scoville Units out of my conscious thoughts now….
But anyway. The above excerpt has all you need to know that the little brother universe really isn’t that far away. As parallel worlds go, it’s right around the corner, so to speak. Turn left or right? You be the judge. Happy Fourth, everybody. The fate of the world is in your hands, don’t you doubt it for a second.
